About The Position

The part-time Cosmetology Instructor will support primary instructors in teaching manicurist and cosmetology classes. Instructors may teach theory, labs, and practicals and instruct students by using mannequins and live models. Lenoir Community College is a comprehensive institution which places primary emphasis on excellence in classroom instruction. Continuing Education instructors are expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at the College: Mastery of Subject Matter, Teaching Performance, Evaluation of Student Learning, and Conduct laboratory/clinic/practicum activities.

Requirements

NC Cosmetology Instructor license is required.
Current license and experience as a nail technician/cosmetologist and/or a NC Cosmetology Instructor credential is needed.
At least two years of work experience as a licensed cosmetologist.
Knowledge of current NC Cosmetic Board regulations and requirements for educational institutions is required.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Teaching experience at a community college preferred.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is preferred.

Responsibilities

Support primary instructors in teaching manicurist and cosmetology classes.
Teach theory, labs, and practicals.
Instruct students using mannequins and live models.
Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning.
Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies.
Modify instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
Employ available instructional technology.
Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills.
Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials.
Maintain accurate student rosters and attendance.
Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives.
Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress.
Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly.
Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters.
Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.
Conduct laboratory/clinic/practicum activities.
Assign laboratory activities that coincide with lecture material.
Preside over all scheduled laboratory activities and hours.
Ensure productive use of student time in laboratory activities.
Provide opportunities for individual student attention.
Evaluate students and provide specific feedback.
Provide additional assignments/projects as student progress dictates.
Order supplies as needed.
Assist in maintaining a clean lab and clean equipment.
Conduct initial troubleshooting measures on equipment and promptly label and report all equipment in need of repair.
