About The Position

The Corrosion Technician is responsible for preventing and mitigating corrosion of UGI underground metallic pipelines where practical and for meeting applicable regulatory requirements. The work is accomplished through the installation, inspection, and maintenance of cathodic protection systems, including the necessary records and documentation.

Requirements

High school diploma.
Basic knowledge of electrical circuits and theory.
Knowledge and application of pipeline cathodic protection concepts.
Knowledge of UGI field operational practices and procedures related to cathodic protection and integrity management of underground metallic pipelines.
Proficiency with computers and data query/entry applications, including MIRATA, ESRI/GIS, DOJM, CP Survey Application, BI Dashboard, and Gas Service Web App.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations.
Ability to communicate effectively with other UGI departments, outside contractors, township officials, and the public.
Ability to work independently to identify and resolve cathodic protection problems.
NACE certification is required within 5 years, at minimum Corrosion Technician or NACE CP1 Tester.

Nice To Haves

NACE CP2 or CP Technician certification is expected within the following 2 years.

Responsibilities

Survey and maintain existing cathodic protection systems.
Inform and instruct C&M, engineering, and contractors on how to cathodically protect new services and mains or added extensions.
Assist and direct C&M or contractors in installing corrosion control systems.
Assist in pipeline integrity assessment activities.
Design cathodic protection systems for services and smaller coated main segments.
Inspect services or mains that are not cathodically protected for potential future protection.
Perform all responsibilities in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies, including the Company’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
