About The Position

Join HII as we keep the world's most powerful navy afloat! The Surface Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (SEMAT) is looking for a Corrosion Assessor to provide corrosion control technical knowledge and assessment support to our customers for U.S. Navy operations in San Diego, CA. This position is responsible for supporting of recurring assessments of coating systems on ship’s structure, ship’s structure, and Passive Countermeasure System (PCMS) assessments.

Requirements

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain CAC ID base access and DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must have at least 4 years of shipboard corrosion prevention experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering technical support for the following tasks: G1N5/G1N6/G1E8 inspections to include: Cruiser (CG) Class ships superstructures, FWD and AFT VLS Topside, Intake/Uptake; Destroyer (DDG) class ships bow structures (A5A1), stanchion, Flight Deck Crack, Rast Track Trough (T4U3); CVN class ships Corrosion/Structural; LCS class ships 2V Crack.
  • Verify tanks, voids, and spaces are gas free and tagged out for entry prior to entering tank/space for assessment.
  • Conduct their own gas free and maintain their own gas free certifications through the performance period
  • Document all discrepancies by photographing with government authorized and company furnished equipment in accordance with command/ship photographic and security requirements.
  • Upload photographs into Corrosion Control Information Management System (CCIMS) using the CCIMS upload utility.
  • Enter assessment results in Corrosion Assessment Data Entry System (CADET) and internal SWRMC Department tracking spreadsheets/matrices.
  • Document and evaluate coating discrepancies in accordance with Corrosion Control Assessment and Maintenance Manual (CCAMM) and structural discrepancies in accordance with NSTM Chapter 100.
  • Provide repair oversight and installation guidance of PCMS components/systems per maintenance requirements.
  • Assess PCMS components/systems in accordance with 18M-R, S-1, A-1 and A-2 PCMS inspections.
  • Conduct training and hands on demonstration on PCMS components/systems to ship’s force.
  • Attend Level 2 PCMS certification Conferences (2 conferences per year) per Level 2 re-certification requirement
  • Provide repair oversight and installation guidance of Motion Measurement System (MMS) and Permanent Motion Measurement System (PMMS) per NAVSEA/Ship’s requests.
