About The Position

The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior. The Corrections Training Instructor and Coordinator is imperative to the security of the institution as it provides new employee training and numerous ongoing trainings and instruction to staff of the institution. This position provides research, curriculum development, and instruction in all areas of institutional functions.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • Must have two years of experience in any operation or program within the field of corrections and/or education.
  • Graduate study in corrections, justice administration, or law will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience in corrections will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development of training schedules.
  • Creates the schedules for other instructors and adjunct instructors.
  • Coordinates all guest speakers.
  • Ensures that all classrooms are set up and all equipment and training materials are ready and in proper working order prior to all classes.
  • Schedules training programs to be presented based on availability of training staff.
  • Maintains certification for all program presentations.
  • Completes monthly and quarterly reports for distribution and adheres to ACA documentation standards.
  • Responsible for on-the-job training for new instructors.
  • Schedules them for necessary training to fulfill the requirements of the job.
  • Assigns seasoned instructors for the new employees to shadow.
  • Acts as a mentor for new employees.
