About The Position

Provides support to corrections officers in maintaining the security and welfare of inmates in the Polk County jail. Work involves monitoring and operating the automated security system, maintaining jail records, verifying warrants, and operating various types of office equipment. Does not require police certification because it is distinguished from corrections Deputy Sheriff by the lack of daily physical contact with inmates. Control of jail security by Corrections Technicians is done by voice and automated locking-unlocking devices. Requires working varied work hours.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of the equivalent GED certificate
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years of age by the date of appointment
  • No felony criminal record
  • Ability to pass the POST Test
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation
  • Ability to pass a medical examination including a drug screening test
  • Must be able to receive certification in the Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) within 60 days of appointment
