About The Position

Directs and instructs Custody and Housing officers in the performance of their duties. Assures officers remain alert and responsive. Disseminates information to line staff and passes on pertinent information to supervisory staff. Assists in the orderly operations of the shift.

Requirements

  • Completion of 15 semester (23 term) college credits in any field.
  • Two years of experience equivalent to a Corrections Officer or Corrections Medical Officer, including one year equivalent to the E9 level; or, one year equivalent to a Special Alternative Incarceration Officer 9.
  • Positions in this class are test-designated and subject to pre-appointment and random-selection drug and alcohol testing.
  • Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.
  • The Department of Correction may screen out individuals who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony shall not be eligible for employment until one year after satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.
  • However, an applicant with a conviction for a violation of the controlled substance act or criminal sexual conduct in any jurisdiction, including the military, will be ineligible for consideration for employment by the Department of Corrections.
  • All employees must meet these ethical standards and all appointing authorities are obligated to enforce these ethical standards.
  • All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
