Corrections Sergeant: Lawrenceville Correctional Center
About The Position
This position is responsible for contributing to the public safety mission by providing first-line supervision to Corrections Officers and Corrections Officer Trainees in an institutional setting. The role involves supervising and monitoring staff on the assigned shift to ensure a safe and secure environment. Key duties include communicating with management, staff, visitors, inmates, and the public, leading and counseling staff, completing required training, and maintaining a safe and productive workforce. Additionally, the Lead Sergeant (S2) acts as a subject matter expert, supports the shift Lieutenant, mentors and coaches other Corrections Officers and Sergeants, possesses advanced knowledge in specialty areas, and may assume a senior supervisory role in the Lieutenant’s absence.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Current DCJS certification.
- Working knowledge and understanding of correctional policies, procedures, and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, schedule and supervise the work of others.
- Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare workplace reports and documentation.
- Ability to sufficiently receive, understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Nice To Haves
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated ability to produce written reports using a computer.
- Equivalent training or experience.
- Fluency in Spanish.
