About The Position
This position contributes to the department’s mission of public safety. The role involves receiving information and complaints from employees, inmates, and the general public regarding suspicious activities or observations of crimes or violations of laws, rules, regulations, and policies. The Corrections Sergeant will investigate these allegations and report incidents to the Institutional Investigator, conducting all assigned investigations. The role also includes providing assistance and directions to staff and inmates, communicating with management, staff, visitors, inmates, SIU, and the public. Additionally, the position involves supervising and monitoring staff on assigned shifts and posts to ensure the safety and security of the public and facility, completing required training, and identifying, monitoring, and tracking all Gang and STG activity to maintain a safe and productive workforce.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Current Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Certification.
- Knowledge of criminal investigation methods and techniques and security procedures.
- Working knowledge and understanding of correctional policies, procedures, and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Nice To Haves
- Skilled in interviewing suspects and witnesses to obtain pertinent information.
- Demonstrated ability to collect and preserve a crime scene and evidence.
- Demonstrated ability to produce written reports.
- Prior investigation background.
- Coursework in criminal justice or related field from an accredited community college, university or equivalent training or experience.
- Investigative or law enforcement related experiences.
Responsibilities
