Under the supervision of the Statewide Canine Coordinator (Major) and Special Operations, this role provides direct and daily supervision and guidance to K-9 Patrol units. The primary functions include assisting in controlling disruptive inmates within DOC institutions and aiding in the apprehension of escaping inmates. The position is responsible for creating duty rosters and training schedules for K-9 Teams, completing monthly reports, and maintaining all required documentation related to the K-9 Teams and the K9 Program. The role may involve training, caring for, and handling the assigned canine. Additionally, the Corrections Sergeant will assist other law enforcement agencies as requested, complete and maintain K-9 Training and Certifications, and conduct monthly assessments of K-9 Teams. There is also a possibility of assisting with the Basic Training and Operational needs of the K-9 Operations Unit. Maintaining positive relationships and effective communication with the Special Operations Unit, investigation units, intelligence unit, institutional staff, and all regional administrators is crucial.
