As a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor with the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Laurel Highlands, you play an important role in shaping vocational training. The role includes teaching trade practices, directing inmate work crews, and maintaining training and tool documentation.
Requirements
- Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems or air conditioning systems; or Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.
- Possession of an active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate issued by an approved provider.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
- Meet the PA residency requirement.
- Able to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Teach refrigeration and air conditioning installation, repair, inspection, and maintenance to inmates
- Deliver curriculum, maintain order, and track attendance and progress during instruction
- Direct inmate crews in completing refrigeration work orders and inspect completed tasks
- Issue, inventory, and verify all tools and materials used during training and work assignments
- Determine needed materials and submit purchase requests to support training and work projects
