About The Position

Responsible for supervising inmates and providing care, safety, and security while maintaining rules, regulations, and cleanliness of the Williamson County Jail. This is an armed assignment. The role involves maintaining security of correctional and courthouse facilities, receiving and booking inmates, conducting searches, supervising inmate activities, transporting inmates, serving warrants, responding to emergencies, and maintaining TCOLE licensing requirements and physical fitness. A Bailiff assignment includes conducting screens and searches at court entrances, ensuring the safety of judges and court personnel, maintaining security during court proceedings, making arrests in court, transporting inmates and arrested individuals, and guarding jury members when necessary. The position operates within a maximum security facility and may involve exposure to individuals accused or convicted of crimes, those with potential illness, and biohazards. Outdoor work in inclement weather may be required. Irregular hours outside of normal office hours may be required, and employees may be deemed essential personnel during emergencies. Regular attendance is required. This job description is subject to change.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • TCOLE Basic Peace Officer License
  • Valid Texas driver’s license
  • Criminal background check
  • Motor Vehicle Record check

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of experience working in a correctional facility supervising, transporting or monitoring inmates
  • Bilingual (Spanish)

Responsibilities

  • Assists in maintaining security of the correctional and courthouse complex facilities
  • Receives, books, and secures inmates upon arrival
  • Conducts daily physical inspections and searches of the facilities, inmates, and visitors
  • Supervises inmate’s activities (i.e., court appearances, recreation, visitation, meals, etc.)
  • Transports inmates to and from various locations
  • Serves warrants and other legal documents within the Jail
  • Assists in responding to emergency calls and routine complaints
  • Maintains Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) licensing requirements, such as firearms qualifications, continued education, etc.
  • Maintains level of physical fitness necessary to perform the duties of a peace officer
  • Performs special duties as assigned
  • Conducts screens and searches at the entrance of the court facility
  • Ensures safety of judges and all persons within and surrounding the court facilities
  • Maintains security during all court proceedings, including maintaining the custody of inmates
  • Makes arrests in court at direction of the Judge
  • Transports inmates, as well as arrested individuals, to the Williamson County Jail and completes all required documentation
  • Transports and guards jury members when necessary
