About The Position

Responsible for supervising inmates and providing care, safety, and security while maintaining rules, regulations, and cleanliness of the Williamson County Jail. Works in one of three general post assignments: Booking, Pod, Medical, or Floor.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age per Rule 217.1 of the Texas Administrative Code
  • Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) / National Crime Information Center (NCIC) training (within 30 days of employment)
  • Valid Texas driver’s license (within 30 days of employment)
  • Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic Jailer certification (within 12 months of employment)
  • Criminal background check
  • Motor Vehicle Record check
  • Drug screening
  • Physical exam
  • Psychological exam (Per TCOLE standards)
  • Written tests
  • Oral Board

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of experience working in a correctional facility securing, searching, and monitoring inmates
  • Bilingual (Spanish)

Responsibilities

  • Maintains safety and security in the Jail
  • Receives, books, and secures inmates upon arrival
  • Oversees and maintains area of assigned responsibility
  • Conducts daily physical inspections and searches of the facilities, inmates, and visitors
  • Supervises inmates’ activities (i.e. recreation, visitation, meals, etc.)
  • Posts, maintains, and enforces jail rules as well as state, federal, and departmental policies and procedures
  • Observes inmates to detect, deter, and/or prevent self-destructive or criminal behaviors
  • Assists with transport of inmates
  • Performs special duties as assigned
