About The Position
Contributes to the agency’s public safety mission by providing for the safety and security of the public, staff, and inmates. This role involves working with all facilities, districts, State and local law enforcement, and outside agencies to detect and control the introduction of contraband and to prevent law violations. The position works under the supervision of Special Operations staff in searching for detected cellular devices in VADOC prisons and identifying relevant targets.
Requirements
- High school diploma or a GED equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Stable employment history.
- Corrections officer experience.
- Current DCJS certification (certifications can be reinstated by attendance at in-service and range).
- Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare workplace reports and documentation.
- Working knowledge of criminal investigation methods and techniques.
- Skill in interviewing suspects and witnesses to obtain pertinent date.
- Ability to operate and interpret X-ray screening equipment.
- Ability to secure and preserve crime scene evidence.
- Ability to lawfully possess a firearm in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook applications.
- Prefer individuals at least 21 years old (a waiver may be provided by the Unit Head for individuals 18-20 years old).
