About The Position
Begin a strong and purposeful career as a Corrections Officer 3 with the Department of Corrections (DOC) at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette. This position gives you the opportunity to lead teams and oversee critical operations that keep the institution running with discipline and consistency. You will guide daily routines, manage complex situations, and uphold the standards that support order within the facility. Your leadership will reinforce stability and strengthen the institution’s mission.
Requirements
- One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

- Persons seeking employment under the experience option will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.
Responsibilities
- Staff Supervision: Direct subordinate officers, assign duties, provide training, and ensure compliance with policies
- Facility Oversight: Monitor daily schedules, supervise inmate movement, and coordinate operations with multiple departments
- Housing Unit Monitoring: Conduct tours, track inmate counts, observe inmate behavior, and document irregularities
- Security Procedures: Oversee transports, process new commitments, and supervise searches of visitors, vehicles, and materials
- Incident Review: Investigate policy violations, recommend discipline, and participate in grievance and fact finding processes
- Crisis Response: Act during emergencies to maintain safety and follow established protocols
