About The Position

Candler County Hospital is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and professional Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide quality nursing care within a correctional facility. The RN is responsible for delivering direct patient care to the inmate population under the direction of their clinical leader or licensed provider while maintaining a safe, secure, and professional environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced correctional setting.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited RN or LPN program.
  • Current, unrestricted RN or LPN license in the State of Georgia
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Ability to pass required background screening and security clearance.
  • Strong clinical assessment and medication administration skills.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to medical emergencies.
  • Excellent documentation and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to establish appropriate boundaries.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and ethical standards in correctional healthcare.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations.
  • Ability to work in a secure correctional environment.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of nursing experience preferred
  • correctional, emergency, medical-surgical, or behavioral health experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to incarcerated patients in accordance with physician orders and nursing standards.
  • Perform nursing assessments and document findings accurately and timely.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Monitor patients for changes in condition and report significant findings to the RN or provider.
  • Assist with intake screenings, sick call, chronic care clinics, and discharge planning.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide appropriate interventions within scope of practice.
  • Collect laboratory specimens and perform point-of-care testing as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records and documentation.
  • Educate patients on medications, chronic disease management, and health promotion.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and facility policies.
  • Follow all correctional facility security procedures and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with healthcare providers, correctional officers, and interdisciplinary team members.
