Corrections Maintenance Foreman - SCI Coal Township
About The Position
The Department of Corrections is hiring a Corrections Maintenance Foreman at the State Correctional Institution at Coal Township. The role oversees inmate work crews and supports maintenance, repair, construction, groundskeeping, and janitorial operations throughout the facility. It combines crew leadership with hands-on work across multiple skilled and semi-skilled trades. The position is full time, 40 hours per week, with a schedule of 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Telework is not available. New Commonwealth employees start at an annual salary of $49,010 before taxes. The position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55. Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, is required. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license that is not under suspension, be able to perform essential job functions, pass a background investigation, and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Requirements
- Four years of experience performing building maintenance, construction, or general trades work, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.
- Possess a valid driver’s license that is not under suspension.
- Be able to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Direct inmate work crews, assign daily schedules, inspect completed assignments, and maintain order during work activities.
- Complete or assist with construction, repair, maintenance, groundskeeping, janitorial, and snow removal projects.
- Perform skilled or semi-skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, refrigeration, masonry, welding, steam-fitting, and related trades.
- Instruct crews in the operation and preventative maintenance of machinery and vehicles.
- Issue, track, and inventory tools and materials; conduct searches and verify that all items are accounted for.
- Determine material and tool needs and submit purchase requests to support project completion.
