About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to serve as a Corrections Lieutenant at the Louisiana State Penitentiary. This is a promotional opportunity for current LA Department of Corrections employees who have permanent status and are ready to advance in their careers. This key leadership role is critical to maintaining effective prison operations within a secure correctional environment while ensuring strong employee relations, policy compliance, and workforce development. Requirements

• Two years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security
• Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR One year of experience in any field; OR Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.
• An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
• Possession of a current driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for training Dorm Officers and Officers in all assigned areas in regards to inmate posted policies, employee post orders and Department Regulations and Institutional Policies.
• Provide training in the proper usage of security equipment such as key control, beeper, restraints, etc. and how to perform a proper shakedown of inmates and inmate’s property including bed areas and dorm areas.
• Supervise and train subordinates on proper count procedure and assist/perform counts at designated times.
• Responsible for ensuring that all posts in area of supervision have been relieved and that an officer is present at each post.

Benefits

• Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $29.50 per hour
• Premium pay: A rate between $1.00 and $2.00 an hour for each regular hour worked, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
