About The Position
The Security Department at Eastern Louisiana Mental Health Systems (ELMHS) in Jackson, LA is seeking a Correctional Guard Therapeutic (CGT) or Trainee (CGT(T)). ELMHS is dedicated to providing comprehensive mental health services, including evaluation, treatment, habilitation, and consultation for adults. The facility offers a range of programs such as inpatient interventions, jail-based evaluations, supervised group home and residential programs, forensic evaluations, and coordinated aftercare services. The CGT(T) role is crucial in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, combining learned skills to manage clients, de-escalate challenging situations, and promote healing within a clinical setting.
Requirements
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
- No experience or training is required.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the security and safety of the facility by controlling access at gate entrances to identify employees, visitors, and patients entering/exiting the compounds.
- Creates a therapeutic atmosphere in the interaction between clients and staff by using appropriate communication and intervention techniques.
- Participate in education trainings that are mandatory for accreditation and licensure of the facility.
