About The Position
As a Corrections Food Service Instructor with the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Somerset, you will play an important part in shaping positive routines within the facility. Requirements
- Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Teach inmates how to prepare, cook, bake, and serve food according to established procedures
- Ensure proper sanitation, equipment use, and safe handling practices in all work areas
- Organize inmate job tasks and review performance to maintain consistent workflow
- Monitor food supplies, adjust recipes as needed, and follow approved storage procedures
- Inspect kitchen areas and equipment to verify compliance with standards
