About The Position

Tooele County is currently accepting applications to establish a roster for a Corrections Deputy with the Tooele County Sheriff's Office. The role involves maintaining the security of the Tooele County Detention Facility, upholding order, and ensuring prisoner welfare. Applicants must meet specific age, citizenship, residency, and driving license requirements. A comprehensive background investigation, drug testing, and psychological evaluation are required for all applicants. Certified applicants will not need to take a physical fitness test, but uncertified applicants must pass a physical fitness test and an interview. Experienced officers may be considered for Deputy II-III positions.

Requirements

Graduation from high school or GED
2 years of responsible work experience (for Deputy I)
Ability to be qualified in the use of firearms for bailiff or transportation of prisoner positions
Successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, drug testing, and a psychological evaluation
19 years of age at the time of hire
A citizen of the United States
A resident of the State of Utah
Possess and maintain a valid Utah Driver's License
No disqualifying criminal history
No DUI convictions in the past two years
Minimum of two (2) years of full-time sworn corrections/law enforcement experience (for Deputy II)
Minimum of two training certifications outlined in the career ladder (for Deputy II)
Minimum of five (5) years of full-time sworn corrections/law enforcement experience or three (3) years with a bachelor's degree (for Deputy III)
Completed three of the courses outlined in the career ladder (for Deputy III)

Nice To Haves

Experienced officers can be considered for Deputy II-III position
Applicants who are certified must also attach a copy of the certification with their employment application.
Applicants who are not certified must attach a copy of their written P.O.S.T. exam.
