The Corrections Community Center Monitor position with the Department of Corrections (DOC) offers a meaningful role where you help maintain a safe and supportive environment for reentrants. Requirements

  • Must successfully complete classroom training at the DOC Training Academy in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.
  • Must be willing and able to work in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
  • Must have the ability to work different shifts or irregular scheduled hours.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience performing public safety or security work. (Examples of qualifying experience include but are not limited to public safety or security work involving protection of persons and/or property and maintaining required security through enforcement of rules, regulations, and laws; public safety or security work in a correctional setting, juvenile, or adult development/detention center, law enforcement entity, or military security experience)
  • One (1) year of work experience providing direction/guidance to individuals. (Examples of qualifying work experience include but are not limited to performing as a lead worker or supervisor assigning and evaluating work tasks, providing informal counseling, or giving orders in the Military)

Responsibilities

  • Ensure security of the center through observation, searches, and activity logging
  • Observe reentrants individually and in groups to identify concerns and maintain order
  • Maintain logs, inventories, and registers for daily activities, medications, and equipment
  • Explain rules, assign rooms, and provide new reentrants with information and expectations
  • Administer breathalyzer or urinalysis tests and document concerns or misconducts
  • Provide information to visitors, assist law enforcement, and respond to public concerns
