About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! This position is located at Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Pasquotank Correctional In situation is a Close/Minimum facility housing male inmates.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in a criminal justice or training-related field; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of experience in a criminal justice or training-related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require General Instructor Certification by the NC Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

  • Documented composition and communication skills (written and oral)

Responsibilities

  • Administer and manage institutional training for all certified and non-certified staff to ensure compliance with policy to include re-certification for certified personnel and certification of new employees.
  • Planning and development of training calendars and lesson plans.
  • Assessment and identification of training needs.
  • Notifications and monitoring of training delivered.
  • Coordination and conducting training classes.
  • Documentation and record keeping for all training activities to include entering training into the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Conducts New Hire Orientation Training for all newly hired staff to ensure new staff are oriented to DPS policy and procedures.
  • Serves as a General Instructor and be willing to obtain specialized training certifications as defined by NCDAC Policy and Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
