About Westville Correctional Facility: Westville Correctional Facility is a multi‑level security facility located in Westville, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 3,400 incarcerated adult males. Originally built as a state hospital, the campus was converted to a correctional facility in 1979. The institution offers numerous programs focused on education, re‑entry, and community service. Partnerships include Gold Standard Truss, which operates a truss manufacturing site on facility grounds, and the Moreau College Initiative through the University of Notre Dame and Holy Cross College. Role Overview: As a Correctional Training Officer, you will provide specialized instruction for both new and veteran employees at one of the Department’s Correctional Facilities. You will work under the supervision as designated by the Facility Superintendent in the review and update of training, identifying budgetary needs, and performance and implementation of the training programs for preparation of all operations, support, and program service staff. This position will assist/coordinate various adjunct trainers and subject matter specialists, performing their duties with general supervision, operating within the confines of established guidelines, Departmental policies/procedures, State and Federal law and ACA standards. You will also provide support instruction at the Correctional Training Institute, as needed.

Requirements

Working knowledge of principles and practices of Workforce Engagement Division, including Administrative Procedures.
Working knowledge of “Adult Learning” principles.
Working knowledge of training correctional issues, treatment programs, custody issues, ACA standards and departmental policies and procedure.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to present and execute detailed lesson plans.
Ability to successfully complete all required training, including the Train the Trainer programs.
High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and at least 2+ years of experience in corrections, education, in-service training, or related experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.
Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

Conduct and assist in new employee, annual, and on-the-job training for all staff.
Assist in the development of training curricula to meet specific performance objectives.
Test, measure, and evaluate trainee performance based on established standards.
Assist supervisor to ensure that all training programs, procedures, methods, and standards are in compliance with established standards.
Maintain a variety of training records, course information, and prepare written reports.
