Correctional Substance Abuse Counselor Senior
About The Position
The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a Correctional Substance Abuse Counselor Senior to provide substance abuse counseling to the inmate/offender population through group and one-on-one sessions. This role involves conducting clinical assessments, developing individual substance abuse treatment plans, and coordinating transitional pre-release planning. The position requires interaction with community providers and security staff, as well as maintaining accurate documentation according to the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners and statistical data/reports. The selected candidate will work independently with minimal supervision and may be required to drive and travel on State business.
Requirements
- Must be licensed in the State of Arizona as a Licensed Independent Addiction Counselor (LIAC), Licensed Associate Addiction Counselor (LAAC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), or as a Psychologist.
- Must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license if driving is an essential function.
- Must complete all required driver training and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
- Must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
- Must take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s Degree from an accredited school with a major in psychology, counseling, or related field
- Two (2) years of counseling experience
- Independent level license
Responsibilities
- Conducts substance abuse education classes and group therapy
- Conducts one-on-one clinical assessments and counseling sessions
- Maintains clinical records
- Participates in clinical staffings and meetings
- Develops individual substance abuse treatment plans with program participants
- Coordinates transitional pre-release planning with case managers and maintains accurate statistical data
- Interacts with community resource providers, medical staff, and security staff
- Travels/Drives on state business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
