CORRECTIONAL SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR SENIOR

This position provides substance abuse counseling to the inmate/offender population through group and one-on-one sessions. Conducts clinical assessments and develops individual substance abuse treatment plans. Coordinates transitional pre-release planning. Interacts with community providers and security staff. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate documentation as required by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners and statistical data/reports. Required to work independently with minimal supervision. In addition, this position is required to drive and travel on State business and perform other duties as appropriate to the assignment. Requirements
- Knowledge of addiction and treatment practices and protocol
- Knowledge of counseling, teaching, and facilitation techniques and processes
- Knowledge of correctional security practices
- Knowledge of computers and various software programs, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Knowledge of Business English, grammar, and spelling

- Ability to apply Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) policy and procedures
- Ability to collect and maintain statistical data
- Ability to work as a team member and independently with minimal supervision
- Must be licensed in the State of Arizona as a Licensed Independent Addiction Counselor (LIAC), Licensed Associate Addiction Counselor (LAAC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), or as a Psychologist.
- Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
- Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training.
- All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
Nice To Haves
- Master’s Degree from an accredited school with a major in psychology, counseling, or related field
- Two (2) years of counseling
- Independent level license
Responsibilities
- Conducts substance abuse education classes and group therapy
- Conducts one-on-one clinical assessments and counseling sessions
- Maintains clinical records
- Participates in clinical staffings and meetings
- Develops individual substance abuse treatment plans with program participants
- Coordinates transitional pre-release planning with case managers and maintains accurate statistical data
- Interacts with community resource providers, medical staff, and security staff
- Travels/Drives on state business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
