Correctional Specialist
About The Position
The Correctional Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the county jail, providing charge and custody of the Adult Detention facility. This role involves successful interaction with inmates, enforcing the rules and regulations of the Wyandotte County Detention Center, and ensuring the rights of inmates are protected under the Constitution of the United States. The housing within the facility consists of minimum- and maximum-security levels. The Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office is a full-service law enforcement agency. The Correctional Specialist is an unarmed, non-union position.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- 18 years of age by date of hire
- Valid Driver’s license
- United States Citizen
- No misdemeanor convictions involving moral character, perjury or false statements as outlined in the Kansas Statute (KSA 74-5605)
- No chronic record of misdemeanors
- No felony convictions
- Not convicted of certain domestic violence related offenses
- No tattoos on the head, face, neck or hands
