About The Position

Reporting to the Correctional Associate Warden of Operations, this position provides supervision of subordinate officers and their assigned tasks and activities regarding the custody and welfare of male offenders in a Minimum/Medium/Close custody state correctional facility. The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. Scotland Correctional Institution is located in Laurinburg, North Carolina and houses up to 1,800 male offenders in a close, medium, and minimum custody facility.

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Officer OR Two years of experience as a Correctional Officer III OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
  • Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
  • Accounting for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
  • Performing various duty assignments with the defined level of work and ensuring 24/7 staffing coverage.
  • Supervising and assigning subordinate officers to a particular area or post. Employee is responsible for subordinate officers' activities relating to the custody and welfare of offenders.
