About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is a large state agency responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons, probation/parole services, and various support divisions. The Correctional Sergeant II position reports to the Correctional Lieutenant II and is responsible for supervising subordinate staff, conducting shift line-ups, making assignments, inspecting personnel, and ensuring operational readiness of equipment and accountability of persons and funds. This role is designated as "Mandatory" and requires reporting during adverse weather events. The position is full-time with rotating shifts and includes State Benefits.

Requirements

Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years and six months of experience as a Correctional Officer
Or Two years of experience as Correctional Officer II
Or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
Accounting for persons, funds, and ensuring that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
