About The Position

This is an internal advertisement for a Selected Exempt Service (SES) position located at the Central Office in Tallahassee, FL, within the Bureau of Admission & Release. The mission of the Bureau of Admission and Release in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to ensure the accurate and efficient processing of inmates entering and exiting the correctional system. This position is not a telework position and requires reporting to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Requirements

  • Must be currently employed with the Florida Department of Corrections.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must have at least TEN (10) years of experience auditing commitments and performing complex sentencing calculations involving split sentence revocation and/or court orders amending sentences.
  • At least ONE (1) year of experience as supervisor – SES in the region or central office; OR
  • At least FIVE (5) years of experience as a Correctional Sentence Specialist – SES.

  • Knowledge and Expertise: Understand business planning, coordination, and execution processes, as well as Department rules, procedures, laws, legal codes, court procedures, and the criminal justice system. Be familiar with corrections, administrative principles, and the Department’s rule and procedure development processes.
  • Technical and Analytical Skills: Proficient in using Department databases (OBIS/CIMS), Microsoft Office, Adobe, and other web-based applications. Skilled in critical thinking, problem-solving, analyzing data, and identifying strengths and weaknesses in different approaches.
  • Leadership and Supervision: Ability to supervise, motivate, and develop staff. Plan, organize, and direct program activities, prioritize workloads, and coordinate statewide programs. Knowledge of hiring practices and experience with the grievance process.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Strong communication skills to effectively interact with staff, stakeholders, and other professionals in the criminal justice system. Build and maintain positive working relationships and adapt communication to meet the needs of the audience.
  • Reporting and Compliance: Develop automated systems, create detailed reports, and ensure compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Conduct audits, analyze sentence data, and address issues related to gain time, forfeitures, and warrants.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily activities of the Specialized Cases, Legal Support, and Violation of Probation Processing Unit.
  • Set goals, develop policies, and ensure the team meets the Department’s standards and mission.
  • Provide leadership and direction to maintain high-quality work.
  • Supervise one Correctional Services Manager and three Correctional Services Consultants.
  • Provide training, motivation, and performance evaluations.
  • Make decisions or recommendations on hiring, transfers, and disciplinary actions.
  • Collaborate with department leaders, legal staff, and other management to handle complex legal and technical issues related to probation and community control violations.
  • Ensure compliance with court decisions, Florida Statutes, and Department policies.
  • Create and update policies, procedures, and technical manuals to align with legislative changes and court rulings.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of systems for revocation processing, coding, auditing, and tracking.
  • Evaluate case processes to ensure accuracy and compliance with laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Analyze and resolve issues related to probation and community control revocations and ensure consistent application of Department rules and directives.
