About The Position

The Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center is looking for dedicated and responsible individuals to join their team as Correctional Officers. Comprehensive training is provided to meet Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) standards.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of employment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to pass the NRADC physical agility exam and other pre-employment screenings.
  • Ability to qualify for Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) standards with a Detention Center – issues pistol + shotgun.
  • Must be flexible to work a 12-hour 2-2-3 shift: day or night shift.
  • Overtime required depending on operation’s needs.
  • Ability to work holidays and weekends.
  • Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Keen observational skills to monitor individuals and surroundings effectively.
  • No prior correctional or law enforcement experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and Monitor: Oversee the conduct of pre- and post-trial incarcerated persons, ensure compliance with facility rules, and maintain security.
  • Safety and Security: Inspect living areas, personal belongings, and security devices. Respond swiftly to security breaches and emergencies.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on observations, incidents, and misconduct. Participate in disciplinary hearings and protect crime scenes.
  • Physical Duties: Be prepared for physical activity and administering first aid and CPR when necessary.
  • Escort and Transport: Safely escort inmates to various locations, including court and medical appointments.
  • Rehabilitation Support: Provide support and coaching resources to help inmates rehabilitate, make positive changes, and prepare for successful reintegration into society.
