About The Position

Correctional Officer 1 (CO2), Wenatchee Valley Reentry Center. Full-time and on-call positions available. This recruitment will be used to fill multiple vacancies. Qualified candidates will be invited to in-person interviews on August 11th and 12th. Successful candidates for this recruitment would attend the earliest training academy available. Reentry Centers serve as a bridge between life in prison and life in the community. Incarcerated people at Reentry Centers focus on transition, to include finding and retaining employment, education, treatment, reconnecting with family members, and develop life skills. They learn and refine social and living skills to create a smoother transition from prison confinement. Reentry Centers provide people with focused opportunities for success. The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking highly motivated and talented individuals for the positions of Correctional Officer 1 and/or 2, at the Wenatchee Valley Reentry Center (WVRC) in Wenatchee, WA. WVRC is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The on call/intermittent positions have no minimum hour guarantee. Custody Level: Minimum security. Residents: Male and female facility. WVRC was built in 2023 and will begin serving the community in 2024. The facility is near health care services, substance abuse treatment and is on the main transit line. The primary goal is to improve public safety by positively changing lives, building positive relationships with family and providing residents with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the community. Residents who meet the screening criteria may be transferred to WVRC 12 months before release. The facility is operated by the Washington State Department of Corrections and provides 24/7 safety and security, food services, case management and maintenance. The Department of Corrections leases the building. Requirements

Graduation from high school or GED
Valid Driver's license
The legal (Constitutional) right to carry a firearm
One year of experience as a Department of Corrections (DOC) Corrections and Custody Officer, which includes successful completion of the CORE (Academy) and the Correctional Officer Field Training Program.
One year of experience as a Correctional Officer in adult or juvenile corrections where security functions equivalent to a DOC Corrections and Security Officer 2 were performed.

Responsibilities

Provide safety and security, and assist in controlling, directing, and monitoring the activities and movement of incarcerated individuals.
Maintain security of the institution and control movement into, out of and within the institution in accordance with established department methods and procedures.
Be a positive role model and work with the incarcerated individuals to help them become productive members of society from the day they arrive under supervision.
Use interpersonal skills and good communication skills to correct and counteract criminal thinking while maintaining safe confinement environments for the individuals to pursue a successful re-entry into communities.
Overtime is an essential function of this position.
Successfully complete Correctional Worker Core (CWC), a six-week academy for all correctional workers employed in DOC prison facilities.
Manage difficult people using observation, knowledge, skills, and continual practice.
Perform assigned duties in a safe manner, take proper care of all state-issued equipment, and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite.
Commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires, to potentially include components of the onboarding process.
