This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangements).

Requirements

  • Employees must currently be a Correctional Officer II with the Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation & Reentry.
  • Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment.
  • Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).
  • Must receive a rating of meets expectations or better on performance evaluations.
  • Graduation from a Correctional Officers Training Academy (COTA)
  • A current Arizona driver's license appropriate to the assignment is required at the time of appointment.
  • All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Nice To Haves

  • Employees accepting a voluntary demotion shall be required to remain in the classification/position requested for a period of at least one year before being considered for appointment to any other position.

  • No job offers will be made without an approved voluntary demotion.
  • The job offer will be made to the next available candidate.
  • Any employee who has been demoted one level shall be ineligible to apply for a promotional opportunity for two years from the date of the demotion.
  • If demoted to more than one level, the employee shall be ineligible to apply for a promotional opportunity for three years from the date of the demotion.
  • A demotion received after the promotional process has started and prior to promotion shall result in the permanent removal from that CPR.
  • Once removed from a CPR for a demotion, the applicant shall not be eligible to compete for a Correctional Officer Series position until two or three years, depending on the number of levels demoted, after the date of the demotion.
  • The first day served of the demotion shall be considered the effective date of the demotion.
  • Some positions require a medical/physical evaluation, psychological examination and pre-employment drug screening and undergo a background investigation prior to appointment.
  • The probationary period lasts twelve (12) months.

  • Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure facility security — Provide security for offender clients, community partners, staff, and all individuals on-site.
  • Supervise assigned clients — Provide guidance, structure, and accountability within the Reentry Center.
  • Conduct searches — Perform thorough searches of personnel and property in accordance with Department policy and facility procedures.
  • De‑escalate situations — Apply effective communication and conflict‑reduction techniques.
  • Complete reports accurately — Initiate and finalize documentation promptly and with attention to detail.
  • Fulfill post duties — Carry out all assigned responsibilities with diligence and consistency.
  • Respond to emergencies — Act quickly and appropriately during urgent or critical incidents.
  • Work independently — Operate effectively in small work groups with limited direct supervision
