This is a non-peace officer classification. A Correctional Officer performs routine support work in law enforcement operations, including monitoring and caring for incarcerated persons, maintaining jail security, transporting inmates, acting as a Security / Court Bailiff when assigned, providing public assistance at the front counter, utilizing computer and telecommunications equipment, and preparing, maintaining, and retrieving Sheriff’s Office records. The Correctional Officer I is an entry-level position working under close supervision, performing duties according to established procedures. Incumbents may advance to Correctional Officer II after gaining experience, obtaining required certification, and demonstrating proficiency.
