About The Position

Employees in this classification are responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in an assigned correctional facility. They function within their legal scope of practice and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organization and practice setting. Work is performed under the direction of a registered nurse as part of a total correctional managed health care team in providing safe and competent care to patients.

Requirements

  • Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) scope of practice.
  • Adherence to organization and practice setting policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work under the direction of a registered nurse.
  • Competent in providing safe patient care.
  • Ability to report and identify alterations in patient responses.
  • Proficiency in preparing and operating necessary equipment and instruments.
  • Ability to administer or assist with medication administration.
  • Skills in assessing and triaging patient care requests.
  • Ability to perform nursing rounds.

Responsibilities

  • Reports data, identifies and reports alterations in patient responses to assist in the identification of problems and formulation of goals and outcomes.
  • Prepares and operates necessary equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Assists with or performs exams and procedures within the LVN scope of practice.
  • Administers or assists with the administration of medications to patients, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Assesses and triages patient care requests according to policy and standards.
  • Performs nursing rounds as needed in all required areas.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in the job classification and/or position description.
