About The Position

Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center is located in La Grange, Kentucky and performs competency evaluations for persons in Kentucky. We are the only forensic hospital in the state, serving all 120 counties. Our team has a 40-hour work week and includes health insurance, life insurance, paid leave and retirement benefits. We are currently looking for a Correctional Lieutenant who possesses the skill, knowledge, and desire to be part of our Security team.

Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • Must have two years of experience in corrections, law enforcement, criminal justice. social work dealing with the rehabilitation of offenders or in the supervision and care of young adults (ages 12-21) in a residential, correctional, group home, detention or day treatment program or any combination of the above.
  • Must be twenty-one years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • For the Department of Juvenile Justice must successfully complete the Department of Juvenile Justice Training Academy within six months of employment.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Correctional Officers and Correctional Sergeants.
  • Maintains documentation on job performance, recommends discipline to supervisor as needed.
  • Prepares and approves timesheets and leave time for correctional Sergeants.
  • Completes performance evaluations for Correctional Officers and Correctional Sergeants.
  • Acts as Shift Supervisor when designated by Captain to include facilitating roll call and/or departmental meetings, assuring staffing complement met, coordinating facility operations during emergency situations, inspections of physical plant after emergencies and supervising transportation of patients.
  • Responds to and assists in emergency situations, ensuring appropriate intervention techniques are utilized.
  • Addresses and resolves problems and conflicts related to staff and patient needs.
  • Manages and supervises on-the-job training for new officers.
  • Interprets policy and procedure.
  • Teaches staff how to implement agency policy and ensures that officers review, understand and adhere to policy and procedure.
  • Conducts ongoing trainings as needed.
  • Serves on panel for security interviews as designated by Shift Supervisor.
  • Assists Captain and supports Shift Supervisor in administration of security functions.
  • Completes incident reports, and reports maintenance or housekeeping issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
