About The Position

The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for a permanent Correctional Industries Supervisor 2 (CIS2) vacancy in our Food Factory Department. This position is located at Airway Heights Corrections Center in Airway Heights, Washington. Correctional Industries (CI) is a unique blend of business and government, using private industry tools and techniques to provide a public service. Operations within the state correctional facilities are supported by sales to state agencies, county and local governments, and not-for-profit organizations.

Requirements

Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products or equivalent software programs.
Effective oral and written communication skills in routine and emergent situations.
Ability to develop and promote positive and professional interpersonal relationships.
Ability to set and manage priorities.
Option 1: At least two (2) years’ full-time work experience in private industry in a food service, food manufacturing, food processing, OR institutional feeding environment.
Option 2: At least two (2) years' full-time work experience as a Correctional Industries Supervisor Assistant (CISA) in a food service, food manufacturing, food processing, OR institutional feeding environment.
Option 3: One (1) year full-time work experience at the CISA level. One (1) year full-time work experience in private industry in a food service, food manufacturing, food processing, OR institutional feeding environment. One (1) year full-time work experience supervising employees within the past 15 years in which the supervisory duties included directing work of the employees supervised and providing employee performance feedback.
Option 4: One (1) year full-time work experience at the CISA level. One (1) year full-time work experience in private industry in a food service, food manufacturing, food processing, OR institutional feeding environment. Three (3) years’ full-time work experience supervising Incarcerated workers within a correctional environment in which the supervisory duties included directing the work of the Incarcerated workers supervised and providing Incarcerated worker performance feedback.
Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment and submit to a criminal background check.
Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual in-service and other required training.
Provide physical residential address and home telephone number to the Department of Corrections.
Become familiar and comply with all Department policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
Submit to drug testing in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreement and agency policy.
Must currently possess or obtain an AIB Certification for “Food Safety and Sanitation” distance learning course within twelve (12) months of receipt of materials.
Must currently possess or obtain a valid State of Washington Food and Beverage Service Worker’s Permit within fourteen (14) days of hire.

Nice To Haves

An AA Degree or Vocational Certificate/Degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
Three (3) or more years’ full-time work experience in a food service, food manufacturing, food processing, OR institutional feeding environment.
Two (2) or more years’ full-time work experience supervising employees within the past 5 years in which the supervisory duties included directing the work of the employees supervised and providing employee performance feedback.
Three (3) or more years’ full-time work experience at the CISA level in a food service, food manufacturing, food processing, OR institutional feeding environment.
Manufacturing Resource Planning software knowledge (MRP)
Experience in teaching and training.
Experience working within a correctional facility.

Responsibilities

Provide supervision and training of Incarcerated workers and staff, as assigned: Supervise and train incarcerated workers and/or supervise assigned staff in the training of incarcerated workers in equipment and tool safety, operation, and maintenance as required by equipment user manuals, L&I safety standards, DOC Policies, facility operational memoranda, and established expectations prior to operating any equipment.
Document and provide feedback on staff job performance per policy.
Document all training as required.
Document and provide feedback on incarcerated worker job performance and behavior using documents including but not limited to: infraction reports; incident reports, behavior logs, performance appraisals, certificates of proficiency, letters of counseling, or verbally, as appropriate and in accordance with DOC policy.
Planning and Scheduling: Plans and schedules production/services based on a master schedule; schedules materials, machinery, and workers to meet completion dates and adjust to meet customer demand.
Direct and assign incarcerated workers.
Utilize quality control measurements to coordinate efforts during production.
Coordinate production/scheduling efforts with other staff.
Coordinate raw material delivery, finished goods delivery and support services.
Develop and operate preventative maintenance schedule for equipment.
Monitor and verify SOPs are followed (e.g. identify and report deficiencies, conduct in-process inspections, verify correct raw material usage)
May, through optimization, recommend or purchase raw materials based on processes used in the factory.
Ensure staff and incarcerated workers receive safety training and adhere to safe work practices: Maintain proper recordkeeping for the DOC Safety Program.
Ensure staff and Incarcerated workers have access to current DOC Safety Program related manuals, policies, operational memorandums, procedures, and standards.
Ensure staff and Incarcerated Workers participate in a Safety and Accident Prevention Program in accordance with DOC Policies
Within established timelines review and investigate accident reports to identify what caused the event and recommend preventive measures.
Participate in and/or conduct monthly Safety committee/meetings.
Document safety and sanitation inspections, as required.
Ensure safe and secure operations: Maintain security and discipline over Incarcerated workers in accordance with DOC policy.
Account for Incarcerated workers in accordance with DOC policy; to include informal counts, reconciliation of call outs, etc.
Execute and maintain tool control processes according to DOC policy; to include completion of daily tool accountability log, tool add/drops, shadow board, etc.
Account for and document the perpetual inventory of consumables items (e.g. blades, drill bits box cutters, etc.).
Maintain key control per DOC policy; to include inspect keys, keep on your person at all times, report discrepancies, etc.
