About The Position

The individual in this position will report to the Correctional Assistant Superintendent. Work in this class involves managing the operations of an institutional housing unit within a close-custody correctional institution, which may include controlled or restrictive housing, medical or mental health units. Additional projects and/or duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

Requirements

Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of correctional experience, three of which must have been at the supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Nice To Haves

Documented experience with report writing.
Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques, and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
Documented knowledge of Prison Policies and Procedures and/or Facility Operations.

Responsibilities

Provide supervision of staff: determine and evaluate program design necessary to meet the needs of the offender population; and coordinate the programs and services with program and custody staff.
Manage the programmatic/operational orientation of offenders which includes education, mental health, administrative and disciplinary segregation and work assignments.
May chair the facility classification committee and are the final approving authority on unit classification and disciplinary committees.
