About The Position

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is looking for a highly skilled Correctional Education Program Supervisor. This position manages all aspects of the education and library services for a prison complex. Coordinates/communicates education-related information and activities to the Warden/Deputy Warden of Operations (DWOP) and Regional Education Director (RED). Teaches and/or provides services to students. Maintains records and reporting. Establishes and implements professional development for subordinate staff. Also, monitors student progress and makes any necessary adjustments, when appropriate, to ensure students can achieve the highest level of literacy commensurate to their ability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Current Arizona Department of Education Teaching Certificate in Elementary, Secondary, or Special Education
  • Current Arizona Department of Public Safety Class 1 Fingerprint Card
  • Ability to lift/carry approximately 20 lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull approximately 20 lbs.
  • Ability to walk/run approximately .25 miles

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and manages all aspects of education and library services for an assigned area, including teachers, librarians, and other education staff
  • Responsible for interviewing, selecting, and hiring activities
  • Monitors attendance, approves leave requests, verifies work hours, prepares work schedules, and reviews work products
  • Evaluates teacher performance and classroom management skills through periodic classroom audits
  • Mentors and develops subordinate staff, administers performance appraisals and discipline
  • Writes reports
  • Ensures employees have necessary tools and equipment to complete work assignments/projects
  • Coordinates with other functional areas to facilitate system repairs as needed
  • Works closely with the RED to ensure consistent and appropriate services are provided
  • Coordinates/schedules use of the facilities for classes and teaching assignments and collaborates with colleagues
  • Monitors the delivery of Career Technical Education (CTE) contract services
  • Ensures programs are administered in accordance with contract stipulations and comply with ADCRR policies and security practices
  • Monitors, reviews, and tracks teacher work hours and inmate attendance records to ensure accurate billing for contracted services
  • Meets with staff and parents, if a Minor, to discuss policies, educational activities, and inmates' learning or behavioral problems
  • Provides counsel and guidance to inmates regarding academic, personal, behavioral or vocational issues, along with enforcing attendance
  • Conducts research, analyses, and compiles data for various required reports
  • Manages a budget and performs other administrative tasks
  • Completes ADCRR annual training requirements
  • Maintains teaching certification
  • Attends meetings and conferences
  • Drives on State business
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
