About The Position

This position is located at Orange Correctional Center, Hillsborough, NC, Orange County. Orange Correctional Center is a minimum-custody facility that houses male offenders. Reporting to the Correctional Programs Supervisor, this position is responsible for supporting and counseling offenders.

Requirements

  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of inmates, which involves supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answering and following up on offenders’ questions and problems and making recommendations to the classification committee.
  • Aid in major dynamic programs and/or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders, such as offenders work assignments, work releases education, or recreation; as well as transition planning and coordinating
  • Plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community
  • Perform custody-related duties to include offenders’ medical, court trips, site checks, Work Release, and Community Volunteer Programs
  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
  • Develop, implement, coordinate, and supervise a program within the framework of policies and procedures of Prisons.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing form
  • Research and stay current of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private programs.
