About The Position

This position is located at Orange Correctional Center, Hillsborough, NC, Orange County. Orange Correctional Center is a minimum-custody facility that houses male offenders. Reporting to the Correctional Programs Supervisor, this position is responsible for supporting and counseling offenders.

Requirements

Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license
Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

Responsibilities

Manage a caseload of inmates, which involves supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answering and following up on offenders’ questions and problems and making recommendations to the classification committee.
Aid in major dynamic programs and/or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders, such as offenders work assignments, work releases education, or recreation; as well as transition planning and coordinating
Plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community
Perform custody-related duties to include offenders’ medical, court trips, site checks, Work Release, and Community Volunteer Programs
Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
Develop, implement, coordinate, and supervise a program within the framework of policies and procedures of Prisons.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing form
Research and stay current of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private programs.
