About The Position

This position is located at Craven Correctional Institution in Vanceboro, NC, Craven County. The prison is a Medium Custody Adult Male Felon Diagnostic Processing Center which houses 850 offenders. Employees in this class play a major role in processing offenders that are newly admitted to the prison system and arriving weekly/monthly at the facility.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in testing or interviewing, and/or counseling; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license

Knowledge of analysis and interpretation
Knowledge of rules, regulation and policies relating to offender custody and treatment

Responsibilities

Analyze and interpret legal commitments/documents, medical data, psychological data, criminal history, social history, statistical information gathered from interviews and written documentation and develop effective treatment plans for offenders including recommendations for housing, custody, treatment and programs.
Comprehend and abide by policy, standard operating procedures, emergency plans, legal documents and other directives, both written and verbal, governing daily activities.
Perform routine supportive counseling and crisis intervention functions to include suicide prevention, recognizing abnormal behavior and taking appropriate action in accordance with established procedures.
