About The Position

This position is located at Craven Correctional Institution in Vanceboro, NC, Craven County. The prison is a Medium Custody Adult Male Felon Diagnostic Processing Center which houses 850 offenders. Employees in this class are involved in the planning, supervision, and coordination of activities in a medium custody facility.

Requirements

• Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility
• Knowledge of facility operations
• Knowledge of Prisons' policy and procedures
• Documented report writing skill
• High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Lieutenant I, or two years of experience as a Correctional Lieutenant II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Responsibilities

• Conduct shift line-up, making post assignments, and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
• Responsible for various administrative duties including shift scheduling, timesheets and overtime management, employee appraisals, develop operational, emergency plans, post orders and standard operating procedures as needed.
• Ensures the safety & sanitation of the area is in compliance with DAC policy and OSHA standards.
• Account for persons and assets and ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
• Identify training needs and coordinate delivery of training to subordinate staff.
• This position also handles referring numerous disciplinary charges, incident reports and OSI internal investigations.
• Ensures the safety, security, and welfare of the staff and the offender population.
