About The Position

Responsible for teaching courses and labs in the Automotive Technology Certificate program. This role involves preparing and revising course guides, teaching assigned classes following approved outlines, and recommending textbooks. The instructor will submit purchase order requests for instructional materials, report attendance and grades, and attend staff meetings and training. The position requires being on-site for 37.5 hours per week, arriving prior to the start of the shift and class time. Responsibilities also include serving on committees, assisting with registration, supporting student needs, and enforcing college regulations and programs. The instructor must conduct themselves professionally, report security violations, and assist in investigations. Additionally, they will manage Safety Data Sheet (SDS) documentation, maintain inventory of hazardous substances, issue and inventory tools, and conduct daily checks. Maintaining program documentation for audits, providing supervision to correctional students, and assisting during emergencies are key duties. Compliance with Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) regulations and procedures, including observing and enforcing student computer usage and adhering to IDOC guidelines for property management, key handling, and maintaining secured areas, is mandatory.

Requirements

  • Automotive Technician Experience Required.
  • Must be able to read and understand technical service manuals and perform required operations.
  • Must be able to demonstrate correct shop procedures and diagnostic techniques as well as repair procedures.
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Good Interpersonal Skills.

  • Associate Degree Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare or revise guides for courses offered in their division and submit to the appropriate Administrator for review.
  • Teach classes assigned by the Associate Dean and approved by the Dean of Correctional Programs following course outlines approved by the College.
  • Prepare textbook recommendations and submit to the Associate Dean.
  • Submit purchase order requests for instructional materials books required commodities and supplies to Associate Dean for approval.
  • Report attendance and grades as prescribed by the Associate Dean.
  • Attend staff meetings and training required by administrative officers.
  • Be on work site for 37.5 hours per week (30-minute lunch) and follow notification procedures of absences.
  • Arrive at work site prior to beginning of established shift.
  • Arrive at the classroom prior to the scheduled class time.
  • Serve on such committees for the betterment of the College as may be established by the administration and faculty.
  • Assist in registration as needed.
  • Consider the general and special needs of the student.
  • Assist students in meeting needs or solving problems when necessary seek additional help from other college services.
  • Observe support and enforce the regulations policies and programs of the College and inform the Dean of Correctional Programs in writing of any problem that might have a detrimental effect on the College.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner.
  • Report any personally observed security violations and assist IDOC in investigations of individuals in custody and/or staff, including completing disciplinary and incident reports.
  • Collect and disseminate all SDS documentation and maintain required inventory of caustics and flammable substances in program areas as prescribed by IDOC.
  • Issue and inventory all tools in program area as prescribed by IDOC, including daily spot checks and complete sight inventories at the beginning and end of day.
  • Maintain up to date Program Service Credit contracts/calendars, program checklists and enrollment documentation for audits.
  • Provide consistent supervision of all correctional students assigned to program area.
  • Assist institutional personnel during emergency situations.
  • Comply with Illinois Department of Corrections regulations and procedures.
  • Observe, support, and enforce student computer usage to authorized instructional activities.
  • Maintain equipment assigned to area and follow IDOC guidelines in the movement and disposal of property.
  • Adhere to IDOC or IDJJ regulations regarding handling of keys and maintaining locked and secured areas.
