About The Position
The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! This Correctional Associate Warden (Correctional Asst. Superintendent I) position is located at Davidson Correctional Center in Lexington, North Carolina. Davidson Correctional Center is a 258-bed minimum custody prison that houses male offenders and staffs approximately 58 employees The Salary Grade for this position is NC13. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for the position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and must be available 24/7 to meet facility needs. The primary purpose of the position is responsibility for assisting with the total operation of Davidson Correctional Center, which includes custody, food service, and maintenance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of supervisory, administrative or consultative experience in corrections or related work; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience at or above the Correctional Lieutenant level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
- Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
- Pass a criminal background check
- Produce a negative drug screening result
- Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
- Possess a valid driver’s license
Nice To Haves
- Documented Supervisory experience in the operation of a prison
- Documented experience in administering prison’s policy and procedures.
- Documented knowledge of facility operations.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring the safety and security of the housing of male offenders housed at Davidson Correctional Center and ensuring the safety of the staff and general public.
- Working closely with supervisors to provide guidance direction on prison policies and procedures.
- Directly involved with the hiring, disciplining, coaching, and training of employees.
- Providing direction and structure for the work of Correctional Sergeants, Correctional Officers, and support staff.
- During any extended period of absence of the Warden II, this position will assume all duties and responsibilities in the interim.
