About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Reporting to the Warden II, this position will provide supervision of subordinate staff. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Managing the total programs services of a minimum custody facility. - Supervising the educational, classification, recreational, religion, and medical services as well as the traditional program components for offenders. - Serving as acting Warden in the absence of the Warden II and participating as part of the management team. - Providing on-going training to staff and is in charge of planning, direction, and enhancement of programs within the correctional facility. - Evaluating recommendations from the Correctional Programs Director and/or other senior officials. - Evaluating feasibility of programs and providing status reports to the Warden II.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of supervisory or management level experience in correctional programs
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

  • Knowledge of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private programs
