About The Position

The Salvation Army’s Springfield Corps. is hiring a Corps Ministry Assistant. This role supports the Corps Officer by assisting in the overall leadership of programs, events, and activities at the Springfield Citadel Corps. This position requires a strong commitment to loving and mentoring young people, guiding them in their spiritual growth and development. This job description is not all inclusive and is intended to identify the essential duties of the position. Other duties, responsibilities and tasks may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Prior work/volunteering experience with Salvation Army programming preferred
  • Prior work experience with children in a recreational and/or educational setting
  • Must uphold Biblical standards in personal and professional life
  • Must have strong communication and organizational skills
  • Must be responsible, accountable, respectful, positive role model
  • Must possess a willingness to drive a 12-Passenger van
  • Must be 21+ years of age
  • Ability to read and write effectively in English; follow written instructions, adhere to policy and procedure of The Salvation Army
  • Receive the public on behalf of the Salvation Army and assist by directing them to appropriate areas.
  • Ability to maintain the highest standard of professionalism and confidentiality during and after employment, in all matters.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree preferred in Youth Ministry/Counseling
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus, but not a requirement

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in the full scope of the program, demonstrating a willingness to assist wherever needed, including social services, indoor and outdoor activities, and oversight of children’s and youth programs.
  • Responsible for overseeing Food Pantry operations, including volunteer management, inventory and ordering.
  • Maintain active involvement in all Corps programs, serving in a leadership, supportive, or advisory role to encourage and strengthen their growth and development.
  • Responsible for overseeing all children’s and youth programs, including Sunday School, summer camps, Summer Vacation Bible School, and related activities.
  • Responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all youth participants in Sunday School, including careful planning and supervision to ensure that no child is ever left unattended.
  • Lead and conduct weekly Youth Group meetings for high school–aged participants and older, incorporating opportunities for fellowship, worship, and service.
  • Remain open to additional opportunities throughout the year to provide special ministry and enrichment experiences for the Youth Group.
  • Provide support for Bridging the Gap as needed.
  • Assist with transportation needs as required by the Corps program schedule.
  • Help maintain the cleanliness and basic upkeep of all program spaces.
  • Attend and actively contribute to all General Staff, Ministry Team meetings and Corps Council.
  • Support the oversight of program activities, special events, and building security.
  • Participate in platform ministry as needed.
  • Assist in organizing fundraising initiatives that support the overall Corps ministry.
  • Implement and uphold safety procedures for all participants, including knowledge of evacuation plans and contingency protocols.
  • Foster a positive and appropriate atmosphere throughout the Corps that aligns with Army standards and promotes respectful behavior and language.
  • Communicate any concerns or needs of the Corps to the Corps Officers, keeping them informed of ongoing activities and potential ministry opportunities within the congregation.
  • Collaborate with the Advisory Council, Corps Council, and church members to promote the mission of The Salvation Army as directed.
  • Create PowerPoint for Sunday Programs.
  • Support Christmas fundraising efforts.
  • Remain up to date with KeepSAfe training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
