About The Position

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. The Corps Ministries Assistant must be a uniform salvationist committed to the Inglewood Corps, who will participate in the leadership and development of assigned ministries that are given oversight by the Corps. Ministries include but are not limited to Recovery Meetings, After School Program, Partnership with ARC, Homeless Outreach, Food Pantry, Lunch Bags, Sunday Morning Responsibilities, Special events at the corps, providing oversight to local Bible Study and Discipleship Groups and new Corps ministries that will be developing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required
  • Valid California driver’s license, auto insurance and personal transportation (or working on acquiring)
  • Attention to detail, quality and professionalism
  • Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written.
  • A criminal background check is required with certification for Protect the Mission policies and procedures.
  • Must have ability to work with, direct, and relate well with co-workers, community members, and guests/clients.
  • Able to function in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment.
  • Must possess good relationship skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some weekends and evenings.

Nice To Haves

  • Ministry experience (preferred), or willingness to commit to the ministry development.
  • Bilingual/Bi-literate English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • To know, explain and exemplify the mission, purpose and values of The Salvation Army Anaheim Corps.
  • To understand all dimensions of The Salvation Army mission and purpose toward the outcome of awareness, cohesiveness, and effective guest services.
  • To create a safe, engaging environment for Salvation Army associates, guests, members, volunteers, partners, and vendors.
  • To provide active support of, and participation in all The Salvation Army campaigns and initiatives.
  • To develop appropriate relationships and maintain appropriate relationship boundaries with other Salvation Army associates, guests, members, volunteers, partners, and vendors.
  • To communicate in an appropriate, professional, responsive, and supportive manner.
  • To maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  • To complete annual, advanced training to include, but not limited to: Protecting the Mission, Sexual Harassment, and others as determined.
  • To positively guide and guard all The Salvation Army resources – people, program, property and finances - toward the fulfillment of mission and purpose, and within the guidelines established by law, policy and procedure.
  • Help to lead Celebrate Recovery alongside program leader.
  • Assist Corps Officer and Celebrate Recovery Leader by coordinating special guest speakers.
  • Assist Corps Officer and Celebrate Recovery Leader by coordinating visits from ARC’s.
  • Keep Relevant Statistics (Recovery Program).
  • Assist with driving if needed (Recovery Program).
  • Help register students and match them to interested classes (After School Music & Arts Program).
  • Teach and provide assistance for music, art (including but not limited to beginner brass, music theory, guitar, etc) (After School Music & Arts Program).
  • Teach and provide assistance for Troops program (After School Music & Arts Program).
  • Promote program to parents and families attending the Corps for food pantry and other programs (After School Music & Arts Program).
  • Help with weekly devotions to children, tailoring scripture lessons to make it easy to understand for children (After School Music & Arts Program).
  • Help serve and prepare snack to children (After School Music & Arts Program).
  • Assist in enforcing all PTM and child safety rules (After School Music & Arts Program).
  • Keep Relevant Statistics (After School Music & Arts Program).
  • Assist with driving if needed (After School Music & Arts Program).
  • Assist the Corps Officer and CCM Leader with contacting nursing homes in the community to schedule and coordinate visits with CCM members (including Christmas Visitation).
  • Assist the Corps Officer and CCM Leader with visitations for corps members and family who are ill or hospitalized.
  • Coordinate Annual CCM Sunday enrolling new members and celebrating Long Service.
  • Keep Relevant Statistics (CCM).
  • Assist with driving if needed (CCM).
  • Be available to provide spiritual counseling for beneficiaries as needed (ARC).
  • Be responsible to drive beneficiaries to Celebrate Recovery if needed or requested (ARC).
  • Be responsible to coordinate possible visit from ARC beneficiaries to Sunday morning worship each week (ARC).
  • Be in attendance for ARC Wednesday Chapel services once a month, in coordination with the Corps Officer, to continue to bridge the gap between the ARC and Inglewood Corps (ARC).
  • Secure sites within the area assigned by contacting store managers, making arrangements, where necessary, provide Certificate of Insurance, agreements, and contracts (Christmas).
  • Review the current inventory of kettle equipment and make repairs or replacements where necessary (Christmas).
  • Coordinate with HR Coordinator to recruit kettle workers and ensure that proper documentation is completed and submitted to divisional headquarters for approval (Christmas).
  • Work with the Corps Officers on the counting, reporting, and banking of money raised through the program (Christmas).
  • Contact and schedule bell ringers at available sites through the kettle season (Christmas).
  • Collect all kettles every day (Christmas).
  • Sign time sheets of bell ringers to verify hours worked (Christmas).
  • Ensure each bell ringer receives paycheck on time (Christmas).
  • At the end of the season make sure that all kettle equipment is secured in storage and send thank you letters to those have allowed the Army to place kettles at their locations (Christmas).
  • Prepare a brief that outlines every detail of the program for future use and review (Christmas).
  • Assist with logistics in planning special events including set up, advertising, operations and clean up (Special Event Logistics Coordinator for Corps Outreach Events).
  • Develop and maintain a schedule to reach the different pockets of homeless in Inglewood with the coordination of other agencies (Homeless Outreach).
  • Maintain a master service and referral information list of partners within LA County and the City of Inglewood and work with other Outreach Teams from LA County (Homeless Outreach).
  • Coordinate services with other agencies such as mental health, employment security, substance abuse programs, vocational rehabilitation, and developmental disabilities (Homeless Outreach).
  • Conduct initial assessment to determine client’s specific needs (Homeless Outreach).
  • Meet with clients as defined developing rapport (Homeless Outreach).
  • Contact and connect with visitors and new members at the corps (Sunday Morning Responsibilities).
  • Connecting them to Bible study group leader and Corps Officer (Sunday Morning Responsibilities).
  • Wear the uniform each week (Sunday Morning Responsibilities).
  • Assist in music duties - play/sing and support the Praise & Worship band (Sunday Morning Responsibilities).
  • Drive ARC beneficiaries to and from the Sunday morning service if needed (Sunday Morning Responsibilities).
  • Help lead Sunday School, in-conjunction with local Corps volunteers (Sunday Morning Responsibilities).
  • Lead the Sunday worship meeting in the Corps Officers’ absence (Sunday Morning Responsibilities).
  • Lock/unlock building in Corps Officers’ absence (Sunday Morning Responsibilities).
  • Assist in the coordination of local Bible study groups. Helping with resources, development, and recruitment (Sunday Morning Responsibilities).
  • Attend Corps Ministry Meetings as needed (Sunday Morning Responsibilities).
  • Perform other assignments/duties as directed.
