About The Position

This position is responsible for receipts and deposits of all income in a timely manner, posting income to correct accounts, and ensuring receipts are written for all cash received from staff or donors. The role also maintains Capital Campaign accounting, conducts monthly closing of all accounts, reviews posting of balance sheet accounts, and prepares journal corrections. Additionally, the Corps Accountant prepares month-end financial reporting and audit work papers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and reporting
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.
  • Valid State Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Receipts and deposits all income in a timely manner; posts income to correct accounts; ensures receipts are written for all cash received from staff or donors.
  • Secures any undeposited cash or checks in the safe.
  • Pays invoices which have been approved for payment by the Commanding Officer; posts expenses to correct accounts.
  • Maintains receipts for all credit purchases and attaches receipts to the monthly statement received from the vendor.
  • Files and maintains daily lodge and thrift store reports.
  • Records soldiers weekly cartridge (tithes and World Services) giving on report.
  • Records soldiers weekly Capital Campaign contributions; remit payment to Capital Campaign each month.
  • Conducts monthly closing of all accounts including closing, balancing, and reconciling accounts with bank statements.
  • Reviews posting of all balance sheet accounts, and income and expense accounts for errors; prepares journal corrections on adjustments and errors for each month; inputs the same into the accounting system after the Controller’s review.
  • Prepares all month-end financial reporting and all audit work papers as required by internal and independent auditors.
