About The Position

We are seeking a Corporate Tax Accountant to facilitate tax compliance and internal functions related to corporate and state and local tax (SALT). This position will be responsible for preparing state and local sales tax and other tax returns (i.e. WA B&O Tax) on a recurring basis across various Hoffman entities, ensuring compliance through self-auditing across state and local jurisdictions and preparing and managing property tax compliance. In addition, this role will include research and detail-oriented review of financial records, with a strong emphasis on construction industry-specific tax regulations including percentage-of-completion accounting, multi-state nexus, and job costing considerations. The Corporate Tax Accountant will work closely with the Corporate Tax Manager to ensure all SALT tax matters are addressed. While this role will focus on SALT related items, this role will also have exposure to other tax areas such as federal income tax, cost-segregation and more. The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented tax professional with experience in the construction industry across varying jurisdictions in the Western United States.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited and credentialed degree program.
  • 1-2 Years Public Accounting Experience with a large regional or Big 4 accounting firm or 3-4 years within a similar industry state and local tax role.
  • Must have proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams, etc. and be able to work well within a network environment.
  • Keen analytic ability to review, assess and interpret trends of large quantities of disparate financial data required
  • Able to maintain confidential information and adhere to company financial policies, practices, and standard operating procedures
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion related to all business and people matters
  • Must be detail oriented and be able to identify issues or inaccuracies.
  • Must have critical thinking abilities
  • Must be able to function in a deadline-oriented environment
  • Must be able to work multiple tasks and between a variety of departments
  • Must be a strong team player, self-starter, flexible and be able to work well with a variety of personalities, with minimal direct supervision

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in indirect state and local tax compliance and preparation
  • Experience in a similar role with a large specialty and/or general contractor.
  • Experience working in a multi-entity and intercompany corporate structure.
  • Advanced Excel skillset.
  • Experience working in accounting software Oracle JD Edwards Enterprise One or another tier one ERP solution.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare sales & use tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions
  • Prepare and manage property tax returns annually
  • Ensure compliance with multi-state tax regulations and nexus requirements
  • Prepare apportionment workpapers for income tax and review state and local income tax returns.
  • Collaborate with tax advisors on SALT issues
  • Prepare correspondence and responses to state and local tax authorities
  • Analyze, monitor, and pursue legislative, regulatory, and judicial state tax developments
  • Collaborate across multiple departments to ensure various taxes and taxable costs are captured accurately in job cost and owner billings.
