About The Position

Overview: Summer Interns complete a 10 week internship centered around professional development, career growth and building the necessary skills to succeed. Summer Interns participate in projects and department initiatives that accelerate career growth and play an important role in building the future of the Bank. As an Intern, you will gain exposure to other departments through guest speakers and industry leaders and a built-in network with peers as well as priority consideration for full time opportunities throughout the Bank. What the Team Does: The WNY Community Bank Strategic Initiatives Team supports communications, internal and external events across the Western New York region. The team develops high‑impact communications and executes signature events that engage the community, internal stakeholders, clients, and external partners. This fast‑paced group collaborates closely with sales, marketing, and community organizations to deliver seamless, memorable experiences. What the Intern Will Do: The intern will gain hands‑on experience in communications and event planning, working closely with the event planning team. Responsibilities include: Coordinating and supporting community and large‑scale events, including: The “Meet Me Downtown” Event Series Pickleball Festival Buffalo Fashion Street Party World Cup Watch Party & Soccer Tournament Participating in planning meetings with event planning and sales teams Supporting execution of an in-person and virtual employee town hall Assisting with content preparation for regional e-newsletters Assisting with events in partnership with Buffalo Place, including the Thursday & Main concert series Gaining exposure to strategic planning, event logistics, and cross‑functional collaboration What You’ll Gain: Real‑world experience in communications, marketing and event production Direct collaboration with experienced event planners and cross‑functional teams Exposure to high‑profile community events, city and community partnerships Opportunities to build project management, communication, and organizational skills

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Work Visa Sponsorship not offered for this role

Responsibilities

  • Complete duties and responsibilities of an entry-level professional nature specific to assigned area of the Bank.
  • Ensure activities adhere to established internal policies and external regulations as applicable.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.
  • Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis.
  • Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
