About The Position

MedPro Group is an industry-leading Berkshire Hathaway insurance company seeking a Corporate & Regulatory Counsel. This role involves consulting on legal issues and implications of business decisions, designing and implementing standardized contracting processes, creating and maintaining contract templates and policies, and drafting, reviewing, and managing vendor agreements. The counsel will collaborate with the procurement team to enhance efficiency and reduce risk, and work with business divisions to create product forms and address compliance issues. This position provides legal advice and strategies to various functional areas including Market Management, Marketing, Underwriting, Actuarial, Operations/IT, Finance, PS&RS, Claims, and Human Resources. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • JD degree from an ABA approved law school and licensed at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • PC literacy with working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, and Lexis or Westlaw.
  • Good organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong legal research and analysis skills.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to analyze legal issues from the business perspective.
  • Ability to handle many, varied legal issues at the same time in a fast-pace environment.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize assignments in a high-urgency setting.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary and work from the Fort Wayne home office weekly on a hybrid schedule.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-8 years’ experience preferred.
  • Experience in insurance and/or reinsurance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Consult on the legal issues and implications of potential business decisions and initiatives, providing counsel on general business and legal issues.
  • Design and implement standardized contracting processes and workflows.
  • Create and maintain contract templates, playbooks, negotiation guidelines, and procurement policies.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of vendor agreements.
  • Work with the procurement team to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and streamline vendor onboarding and contracting processes.
  • Create product forms, and other documents as appropriate to support business divisions and to address corporate policy/compliance issues.
  • Work with a cross functional team to facilitate proactive and compliant performance of all company objectives.
  • Provide legal advice, strategies, and solutions to all business functional areas, including Market Management, Marketing, Underwriting, Actuarial, Operations/IT, Finance, PS&RS, Claims, and Human Resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
